Oil can also explode

– REMBE® has the solution

Oil-Ex-Box, the new flameless explosion venting device for machine tools.   Machine fires can happen in any business. As they say, “You can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs” and wherever machines are being operated, oils and other non water miscible cooling lubricants are applied. As a result of process-related lubricant atomization, and despite a comparatively high flash point, an extremely explosive mixture is accumulated. During operation, tool breakage, collisions or other mechanically triggered sparks and hot surfaces could lead to fires, deflagrations or explosions.  For this reason and in addition to fire extinguishing systems and exhaust equipment, previous protection concepts stipulated simple explosion venting.  The explosion venting flap’s task is to rapidly divert the explosion-driven overpressure via an opening to non-hazardous areas. However, during this type of venting, emerging flames and fireballs are ejected in the machine’s exterior area.
With a simple, yet ingenious solution, REMBE®  und Kraft & Bauer Brandschutzsysteme (the leading manufacturer of extinguishing and fire protection systems), take on these dangerous flame ejections.  By bundling expertise, and with a combination of two proven philosophies of protection (pressure relief valve and REMBE® Flame Arrester), a new product called the Oil-Ex-Box was created.
The overpressure and the flame front of an oil mist explosion are lead over a single or multi-pressure relief flap into the housing of the Oil-Ex-Box, where the REMBE® special flame arrester absorbs the energy and prevents flame escape. It is comprised of three components: flame-proof housing, the REMBE® Flame Arrester and the explosion venting slats that let nothing else out,  but smoke: ingenious!

The advantages of utilizing the Oil-Ex-Box speak for themselves. It can be cost-efficiently mounted on tool machines with enclosed machining areas. It is available in various sizes and thus, suitable for retrofitting older machines. In addition and as described, it prevents escaping flames hazards to the machine operators and personnel and in addition, allows for positioning in hall areas with low ceiling heights. After an explosion, and subsequent cleaning of the machine and the Oil-Ex-Box, operations can be commenced in a timely manner. Long machine downtimes are now history: it doesn’t get any simpler or more cost-efficient than that.
